Common questions

Is there a free trial?
Yes — HoldMic includes a 14-day free trial with full access to all features: AI polish, translation, compose mode, and enhance. After the trial, basic voice typing continues to work for free using Apple’s built-in speech engine. No credit card required.
What happens after the trial?
You can extend your trial once for 7 more days. After that, basic voice typing (Apple Speech) keeps working — for free, forever. To unlock AI polish, translation, compose mode, and enhance, subscribe or enter a license key in Settings.
The hotkey doesn't do anything
Check that both permissions are granted: go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, and make sure HoldMic is checked. Also verify Microphone access. You may need to restart the app after granting permissions.
Is my audio sent to the cloud?
Yes — audio is streamed to our server for real-time transcription and then discarded. We do not store recordings or transcripts. The connection is encrypted via TLS.
What macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later. Both Apple Silicon and Intel Macs are supported.
What is Compose Mode?
Compose mode shows your transcription in a floating window before inserting it. You can review, edit by typing, or speak again to voice-edit. Use Tab to enhance or translate, then commit with Enter. Great for longer messages, emails, and anything that deserves a second look.
What languages are supported?
14 languages: English, Chinese (Mandarin), Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, Thai, Filipino, Malay, Arabic, and auto-detect mode. Translation works between any pair.
Does it work offline?
Basic voice typing works offline using Apple Speech (after trial or on free tier). AI polish, translation, and enhance require an internet connection for cloud-based processing.
